Lyndon and Ann Whitehouse met whilst both working in West Midlands Police at Wolverhampton in 1987. Six years later they married and have three grown up children.

Whilst still serving, Ann (ret PC) and Lyndon (ret DS), registered a business interest and became successful residential landlords.

Lyndon says, “We risked everything by re mortgaging our house and borrowing heavily in buy to let mortgages, building up a substantial portfolio, we had to learn the business quickly and then learn from our mistakes”.

Since retiring from the Police the couple have set up a letting agency in Wolverhampton, L&A Lettings Limited, which currently manages over 400 properties. This project came about through word of mouth.

Ann says, “People would find out that we were landlords and began asking us for advice in setting up and becoming a landlord”.

Since those early days, Lyndon has helped approximately 150 individual investors to become residential landlords, guiding them through the process of identifying local bargains and assisting in the smooth engagement with L&A’s in house solicitor and mortgage broker.

“As the business grew, we realised that it would be beneficial to employ retired officers who’s skills in people management would be extremely useful when assessing potential tenants”, says Ann. Retired Inspectors Paul Affron and Jon Turley were recruited and the business has gone from strength to strength.

The remarkable thing is that with no overt advertising, the company have helped
49 Narpo Members to set up their own mini enterprise and become residential landlords, with the management all taken care of by Lyndon and Ann’s team.

The company were recently accredited by Wolverhampton City Council as being 5 star Agents.

Lyndon makes the point, “We do not give financial advice, however, we are able to explain how we became landlords ourselves and to clearly demonstrate that returns of over 10% are achievable on rental returns”.
